Yes, It is true. We are working on a new game.
- "But you guys haven't finished "De Forbudte Bjerge"!
Yup, That's true. And here's the reasons why we've already started up a new project.
1st) We can't really work on "De Forbudte Bjerge" at the moment, mainly because we are not in charge of its future.
Currently, the guys at Pallesgavebod are considering weither we are allowed to make the game for them or they will hire another team to do so. It might even happen that they decide not to keep the concept which means we will have to change the characters in the game in order to ship it.
And shiping the game is probably our biggest wish.
2nd) The School gave us a Month to make a new game. This time the only restriction we were given, was that the game had to be targeting hipsters. In other words, our teacher wanted us to think out of the box.
So what kind of game did we decide to make?
At first, our considerations went in the direction of time travel, but in the end, we decided to go with monsters.
So you start as a little monster and you only have one goal. Hunt and devour. As you devour animals and humans, you grow larger. This means that it becomes more difficult for you to hide, but it also means that you get access to more bio enhancments (abilities). In each level it is fully up to you to decide how you will get through them. What play style will you use? Will you stay small and stealthy with a large pack of fellow organisms that you can order around? Will you develop your organism to become psychic and take the control of your pray's mind? Or will you grow yourself up to become a large furious monster killing everything in its way? These are but a few of the possible play styles.
We will go more in depth with the games core mechanic and design on a later post.
Here's a short look at the prototype.
We have also been thinking a lot about how we are going to show the creatures abilities. The problem is that, if we made all the bio enhancments (Creature abilities) visually present on the creature as it earns them, the creature would be over crowded with visuals fancy stuff on it. So we have taken inspiration from john Carpenters "The Thing" where the organism changes form in no time. It also helps us bring the rapid evolution feel to the creature.
Here's a short clip showing the creature evolving a jaw in a matter seconds. Take in mind that this is still concept.
That's it for now and we hope you are as excited about the game as we are.
